Scammers using voter registration records

Kansas Attorney General Steve Six is warning consumers about unsolicited emails or calls requesting Social Security or credit card numbers to confirm voter registration eligibility. The scam has occurred in other states, he says.

Instead of helping you get ready to vote, the scammers steal your identity.

Providing financial information is not necessary to vote.

For more information about registering to vote in Sedgwick County, go to http://www.sedgwickcounty.org/elections/or call the elections office at 316-660-7100.

County commission candidates sound off

The four candidates vying for the District 2 and District 3 seats on the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners will speak at a forum next month at Newman University.

The forum, sponsored by the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, will give voters a chance to hear from District 2 incumbent Tim Norton, a Democrat, and his Republican challenger, Craig Gabel, as well as District 3 hopefuls Republican Karl Peterjohn and Democrat Marcey Gregory.  The commission races are ramping up to be interesting with a lot of focus on giving residents some relief on property taxes.  The Eagle recently reported that Gabel is delinquent on some of his own taxes.

The forum will start at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Newman Universeity’s De Mattias Performance Hall and is free and open the public.
