Who is willing to fight for open government?

Last weekend, Lucy Dalglish, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, gave a speech for the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies that raises some thought-provoking points about the role of news media in ensuring open government.

The text of her remarks is interesting reading, tracking the role and investment of traditional media in driving openness from government, courts and other institutions.

Why didn’t the Eagle run the Al Franken victory story on the web site yesterday? Every other reputable news organization, including the BBC, did.

–Or did I miss it buried down in the national news or somewhere?

    Dennis,
I think you might be looking in the wrong place. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we’ve had 12 stories online about the race. This looks like one of the first ones we posted, http://www.kansas.com/514/story/874263.html (on Tuesday). If you search within the site for “Franken,” you’ll find them all. They’re under the News tab on the homepage navigation bar, then in the Nation & World section.
