(From Nick Jungman at Kansas.com) FirstAmendmentFan, you are correct about sometimes seeing the morning headlines in the afternoon e-mail. Those e-mails are automated to send the top eight stories out of our running "Top Stories" list. If we don't have eight breaking stories over the course of the day, some morning headlines will linger in that top eight. Doesn't happen every day or even every other day, but some of the time.

It's worth noting that not everyone who gets the Morning Headlines e-mail, also gets Afternoon News Update e-mail (and vice versa).

The Eagle's goal is not quite clear. If you are pushing people to the Web site so you can eliminate the printed version altogether, you are on the right track. I'm adapting to the new reality of Web-based news... but it really plucks my strings to read in the print version (that I PAY for) on Sunday what I read on-line last THURSDAY. Why not change "Excerpts from LAST WEEK's blog" to "Exceprts from TODAY's blog" by simply holding said blog comments, and post them at midnight Sunday. Give print readers -- your most loyal of readers -- first dibs!
Another thing that chaps my hide is to receive the so-called afternoon headlines, and read the SAME headlines that were posted first thing in the morning. Breaking news is not eight hours old. I don't understand this contining practice, and frankly, it's not only annoying, it's embarrasing. Please fix it.
