Who pays for casino ads?

Curious who is behind the ads telling you to vote for or against a casino?

So are we.

State law says that groups supporting ballot issues don’t have to disclose how much they are spending or where they are getting their money until Dec. 31 - a full 21 weeks after the election.

That’s why the Eagle has been asking groups to release the information early.
As you’ll see in a story in this Sunday’s paper written by Deb Gruver the response from the three groups has been less than enthusiastic, with one exception.

Push to get the laws changed. Until then, you can’t complain about the campaigns not releasing their financial backers because they are not required to. It’s comical that the Mom’s group IS releasing their numbers, but it is by far the smallest and lowest funded group and is only a fringe of the Vote No efforts.

What are they hiding? I had a call this weekend from the no casino group, asking how I was going to vote. I told them I would support them..IF they told me who was financing them.

The caller hung up on me. What are they hiding??? Hiding behind the law for what reason? They claim to be grass roots groups? C’mon…ever seen a grass roots organization with the money for the professional ane multiple tv ads?? They are well funded, organized, and professional.

My guess is the major funding is coming from the casinos in Oklahoma..they don’t want the competition, and will laugh their socks off if they get away with this scam.

Funding for the casino opposition is coming from:
    1) Local business owners who would rather stay in business than see the casinos leave their customers without the money to buy their products and services.
    2) Readers of Forbes magazine, who see that Phil Ruffin and Donald Trump are already on the list of the wealthiest men in the world, and don’t see a need for them to walk away with 73% of the profits.
    3) Individuals who think that enticing the poor to wager money that should be going to feed their children is immoral.
    4) Clean government advocates who despise the way this sweetheart bill was rammed through the legislature in the middle of the night.
    5) Taxpayers who see that an almost invisible portion of the revenue comes back to us, while we’ll be on the hook for all the costs.
    6) Realists who know that very few out-of-towners will come to Wichita to gamble, since there are already other casinos closer than Wichita to any major population center.
    7) Mathematicians, who realize that all gambling (except person to person) is a tax on mathematical incompetence. The house never loses.

So, “Dave”…who are they GIVING all this money to? Who is ordering the slick, professional tv ads? Who is organizing the calling centers? Who is coordinating the total effort?

The list you provided could be people who are against the casino, but WHO is coordinating all this and WHY are they hiding?
