I want to thank all of Kansas.com’s users for their patience as we tweak our story commenting system. We have made several changes just in the last week in an attempt to curtail users who abuse the system and to respond more quickly to reports of violations. It is certainly not perfect, but I think it’s improving.
Some of you have noticed that some of your comments do not appear after you’ve posted them. They’re likely getting caught in our word filter, which attempts to screen out comments that contain profanity and fighting words. This filter is not incredibly intelligent, and so many well-meaning comments are snared. These are eventually approved and posted, but there is sometimes several hours’ delay. We appreciate your patience. One thing the filter always snares is a URL. This is so we can filter out spam on the boards. You’re welcome to include links in your comments, just know that they will be delayed while they trickle through the filter system.
One thing that certainly helps on the comment boards is when users report out-of-bounds comments to us by clicking the "Report a violation" link that appears underneath the comment. We cannot pre-emptively monitor the boards, but we do see all reports of violations. We won’t deem every reported comment to be an actual violation, but we take every report seriously.
