Missing comics, games

Much of the response
Kansas.com has received since the site’s transition to a new system has been about games and comics missing from our Comics & Games page.

Since ownership of Kansas.com passed from Knight Ridder to McClatchy Co. last summer, much control of the Web site has been returned to us here in Wichita. That’s mostly a good thing, and it will allow us to better customize the site for you. However, among the drawbacks of this shift in control is a shift in costs. One big cost we were facing was the bill for all the comics and games we have carried. Given the relatively low usage of those features, it just didn’t make sense for us to pay to keep everything. We chose to maintain the two most popular features — the crossword and sudoku — and let the others lapse.

I apologize to those of you who’d developed a habit of using some of those features, but I hope you understand the situation we found ourselves in.

I guess it wasn’t such a low usage item after all, if that is your main complaint so far! We can always find the comics in other online newspapers for our morning fix, but it’s a shame that Kansas.com doesn’t carry them.

Re: the comics. I guess what bothers me is that you chose to not carry the comics that
are popular with readers of the actual
paper copy of the Wichita Eagle. I have
    enjoyed your kansas.com, especially the
news update-which also was moved to ???
(if it is a separate e-mail-that is not an
    improvement)
If low usage was the critrea for the choice
of which comics, as another writer expressed-
most of your fix its have been about the comics, then you might consider putting the favorite
paper copy comics into the online.

Diane, it wasn’t so much the low usage of individual comics as it was low usage of comics in general. We haven’t picked which comics to keep — the ones that disappeared are the ones that expired last month because we didn’t make a deal to renew them. We are unlikely to make a deal to keep the remaining comics either, but they expire later.

As for the news update, I’m afraid I’m not understanding what it is you’re not getting. E-mail us back at fixit @ wichitaeagle.com, and I can help you further.

I am really disappointed that you chose to elimanate the jigsaw puzzle and comics. I was wondering if you would tell me if the interactive jigsaw puzzle exists at another web address and what that address is. It was a rather fun thing to work and I do miss it.

    Thanks
