I had an appointment today in the Farm Credit Bank Building at 245 N. Waco and decided to take the advice of the flier posted in the elevator and try out the Waterside Cafe, which is located on the building’s lower level.
It smelled great, and after inspecting my options — a sandwich bar with both hot and cold choices, a build-your-own stir fry station, I chose the salad bar, which was overflowing with fresh veggies, meats and toppings.
I was shocked when I saw the price, which was determined not by weight but by container size. And it was only $3.95 for a large to-go container.
I loaded that puppy up, piling on the radishes and croutons and banana peppers and buffalo chicken (!!!!!) My concoction would have no doubt cost $8 or $9 at a by-the-pound bar, but this fresh and fab salad cost me $3.95. I’ll definitely be going back (especially once I noticed that on Thursday they’ll offer made-to-order quesadillas.)
It got me to thinking about all the cafeterias and cafes in local office buildings that I probably don’t know about. Bonnie told me that the Bank of America building has a good little cafe, for example. Do you know of any others? Maybe I’ll do a story. Let me know below.
