Eat an egg roll, help a cause

Hungry for some Chinese food? If you print and download this flyer and take it to the Panda Express at 2760 N. Maize Road between 11 a.m and 8 p.m. on Nov. 7, the restaurant will donate 20 percent of your purchase to Starkey, an organization that helps mentally disabled people achieve independence.

I’ve noticed several restaurants, including Chipotle, Il Vicino, Panda Express, Baskin Robbins and more, are participating frequently in fundraisers such as this one. Has your organization or school ever participated in one? Did it raise a lot of money? Talk to me.

Question of the week: Whose iced tea is best?

I’ve been informed by the fine folks at Lipton that Friday is National Iced Tea Day.

Now, it’s my belief that we all should get the day off work to observe this important holiday — and that we should spend it on our back porches, watching the sun turn a glass jar filled with water and tea bags into Sun Tea, one of the things my mom always made when I was growing up.

I love iced tea, especially with a generous squeeze of lemon in it. (I don’t, however, love sweet tea, a horror I discovered when I lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., for a couple of years. You actually have to SPECIFY in the south that you want “unsweet tea” to avoid being served this abomination.)

I digress.

This week’s question of the day is about iced tea. I want to know which restaurant serves Wichita’s best iced tea. I have a couple of nominees. I love the fruity but not sweet tea that Il Vicino brews, and until I re-tasted Tanya’s Soup Kitchen’s similar version when it reopened, I’d forgotten how much I’d missed it. Yum.

Let me know in the comments section below who else has great tea.

Question of NEXT week

The beautiful weather earlier this week made my BFF Jaime and I eager to do some patio dining, and we chose Il Vicino. My daughter, unfortunately, decided it wasn't spring enough for her taste.

I know, I know. You JUST answered my question of the week. But since I won’t be here next week (YAY SPRING BREAK!!), I’m going to have to quiz you a few days early.

So here’s what I want to know: We got a definite taste of warmer weather earlier this week, which makes me and many diners eager for outdoor dining.

In your opinion, which Wichita restaurant has the best patio for outdoor dining?
