Charlie’s Pizza Taco, a restaurant that started in Pratt then expanded to 602 N. Tyler in Wichita, is known for pizza tacos: delicious creations that stuff pizza toppings into a pliable crust then fold it over to look like a taco.
But, as restaurant owners have learned since arriving in Wichita in 2011, pizza tacos confuse people. For years, customers have been trying to order pizza and tacos then learning their only option was pizza tacos.
Owner Tim Holmes has stopped the insanity.
About three months ago, he added regular pizza to the menu. Then, about three weeks ago, he added tacos. The restaurant offers a new lunchtime buffet as well.
The pizzas are decadent creations that Holmes said he based off favorites of his family members. One is a barbecue buffalo bacon cheeseburger pizza. He also offers a bacon cream cheese pizza and a cheeseburger pizza, complete with pickles.
His new taco choices include a traditional ground beef taco served on a crunchy shell plus a slightly toasted soft-shell chicken taco topped with buffalo Ranch dressing, a slice of bacon, lettuce and melted cheese.
The new pizzas and tacos (but not pizza tacos) plus a grilled chicken Caesar salad all are available on a daily lunch buffet served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that’s all-you-can-eat and costs $5.
Here’s some other exciting news for those who like to pay little but eat and drink much: Charlie’s Pizza Taco offers 16-oz. draws of Bud Light, Shock Top and Fat Tire for $2.
Charlie’s Pizza Taco is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 316-440-6029.
