Kids eat free…where?

School is back in session, which means that stressed out parents may often find themselves opting for a meal out now and then rather than face the kitchen.

For next week’s dining page, I’m thinking of listing places in town that offer discounts or free meals for kids. Do you have a favorite place you like to take the family that offers a particularly good dining deal on a particular night?

Share it with me, please. I don’t want to miss any good ones.

The comments section below would be a good place to submit yours. Or you can e-mail me.

Free tacos, cheap noodles

thainoodles2Two local chain restaurants are offering patrons an opportunity to save money.

One is Pei Wei, 2441 N Maize Rd., which is offering diners who visit on Thursday or Friday of this week  a ticket for half off the price of the new Thai River Noodles Dish, featuring wok-tossed wide noodles in sweet soy sauce with choice of meat, broccoli, carrots, Fresno peppers and Thai basil. The coupon can be redeemed Saturday through Oct. 10.

The other is Chipotle, which is introducing a new kids menu and enticing young customers with free kids meals the first four Sundays of October — Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The new kids menu offers a small cheese quesadilla with a side of rice and beans, a small meat and cheese quesadilla with a side of rice and beans, a single taco with a side of rice and a taco kit, which allows kids to build their own. A kids meals is free with the purchase of  an adult-sized burrito, burrito bowl, salad or order of tacos.

Cheap eats for kids

MOMS SCHOOLHABITS KCThis just in! Today, June 30, is Kids Day Out at Fazoli’s, the fast-Italian chain. Kids who visit today get a 99 cent kids meal with the purchase of an adult entree. (See details below.)

Cheap or free kids meals are a big draw for families, and several restaurants around town offer frequent price breaks to attract families. One of my favorites is kids night at Jason’s Deli, which happens every Tuesday after 5 p.m. and offers free meals to kids who are dining with a paying adult.

What’s your favorite kid meal deal? Post it below. We’ll get a list going.

(On another note, if you have kids and you like to dine out, you might find this article that my friend Suzanne sent to me pretty interesting. It argues that restaurants don’t need to be kid friendly but rather that kids need to be restaurant friendly.)
