Beef Battalion, Cargill team up to serve lunch to McConnell personnel

A Kansas-based group formed to support military men and women will be feeding about 1,000 McConnell Air Force Base personnel and their families on Saturday.

The lunch-time event is being organized by Cargill and the All American Beef Battalion, a Dodge City-based outfit that will bring its special grilling trailer to the event.

Cargill is supplying the New York strip steaks, and there will be hot dogs for the kids. And, of course, there will be numerous side dishes as well.

The volunteer battalion was formed in 2008 by former U.S. Marine Bill Broadie, an Ashland area cattleman. According to a news release from Cargill, the battalion includes volunteers from Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado and has served 200,000 military service members since it started.
