Hampton Inn prepares to open in Mulvane

The opening of Mulvane’s new Hampton Inn hotel is set for October, according to company officials.
The 150-room hotel is located at Exit 33 off the Kansas Turnpike, next to the Kansas Star Casino, according to a news release from the company.
The hotel is building its staff and has a general manager, Elias Thompson, in place. To fill other positions, the hotel will hold a job fair Tuesday and Wednesday at Mulvane City Hall. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 to sometime in the evening on Wednesday.
The hotel’s 150 rooms include 50 king studio suites. There also will be an indoor swimming pool, guest laundry facilities and meeting spaces, according to the release.
Kansas Star has said it plans to open it larger, permanent casino late this year or in January.

Health conference puts focus on the workplace

About 300 people are expected to attend the 2012 Working Well Conference, scheduled for Tuesday at the Wichita Hyatt Regency.

The Economics of Healthy Behaviors, sponsored by Preferred Health Systems and UnitedHealthcare, provides businesses with information about best practices in work-site wellness, according to a news release from event organizers.

In its eighth year, the conference is supported through the Health & Wellness Coalition of Wichita. Speakers this year include Dee Edington of the University of Michigan; Michael Samuelson, president of the the Health & Wellness Institute; Jon Morgan of the Wisconsin Division of Public Health; and Jason Lang of the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
