Mike Lowen, longtime Hutchinson businessman, dies

Mike Lowen, founder of Lowen Corporation in Hutchinson, died June 20 in Bullhead City, Ariz., and was buried on his land in Oatman, Ariz.

According to the Hutchinson News, his family will host a come-and-go celebration from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dillon Nature Center in Hutchinson.

Lowen, 84, was known by his family and employees as an avid learner and entrepreneur, as well as a strong leader, according to an obituary in the newspaper.

He started his business out of a garage in 1950 after spending almost 10 years in Hutchinson working as a window dresser and a sign painter. At the time of his death, Lowen Corporation had five operating divisions, 325 employees and a 150,000-square-foot headquarters with manufacturing plants in both Hutchinson and Houston
