What will the Black Friday deals be?

WICHITA — The economy’s late swoon has fooled many retailers and they will probably have to discount big at Christmas, starting with Black Friday, Nov. 25.  The ConsumerSearch blog is guessing Black Friday deals will include:

  • TVs: Mid-level performers, especially 3D models, may see a 50% price cut or be or be bundled with extras such as 3D glasses and 3D Blu-ray players at their lowest prices to date
  • Digital Cameras: The most basic (and poorly-reviewed) cameras will show up in store circulars – and average savings will only be about $10-$20 less than the regular retail price
  • Tablets: HTC Flyer and other similarly capable Android tablets as low as $199 or even less to stay competitive with the Kindle Fire

Survey: most don’t know what affects their credit score

Do you know what affects your credit score? Visa, the credit card company says most people don’t, which it worries will mean people won’t pay their bills. Here are what survey respondents incorrectly thought made a difference:

  • Employment history: 59.9%
  • Interest rates on debt: 58.7%
  • Assets / savings: 53.1%
  • Age: 38.6%
  • Where you live: 25.3%
  • National origin: 21.6%
  • Ability to speak English: 21.6%
  • Gender: 17.2%
  • Race: 15.7%

The correct answer is: pay bills on time, reduce debt, and don’t open new credit accounts if you don’t need to. According to Visa, FICO scores come from your payment history, amounts owed, length of credit history, new credit, and types of credit used. FICO scores do not include age, national origin, gender, race, religion, education level, or marital status.
