Kansas is slated to grow an average of 2.8 percent a year through 2016, according to a projection by IHS Global Insight, a national economic forecasting firm. That puts Kansas slightly faster than the average of the 50 states and District of Columbia. The nation’s fastest-growing states are in the South and in the Mountain West, including neighboring Colorado at 3.3 percent.
