From earlier:

Could Bon Jovi be on its way to Intrust Bank Arena?

We don’t know for sure, but we got an interesting release this morning from Beth King, who handles public relations for the arena. According to the release, there will be “a special announcement of interest to fans worldwide” during an 11 a.m. webcast at BonJovi.com.

So far, there are three known concerts scheduled for the arena, which opens in January. Country star Brad Paisley is the first on Jan. 9. Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is scheduled for March 12, and singer Taylor Swift is set for April 1. Also scheduled for the arena are the Harlem Globetrotters (Jan. 22) and the Professional Bull Riders (May 7-8). The Wichita Thunder hockey team will start playing there Jan. 23.

Love Bon Jovi but not sure I will fight the parking to go see him. I hope everyone doesn’t think like me or the arena will be in a world of hurt.

  • martinobeano

What year is this again? 1988? Come on Bon Jovi was good 2 decades ago.

  • Dan Loving

Sharno … I really don’t think parking will be as bad as many people think. Wichita really must get out of this mind-set that you have to be able to park at the front door and do it for free.

  • Flibby

Quit being a baby. It’s a downtown arena…you’re supposed to park and walk there. It’s not supposed to have a parking lot twice as big as the arena itself. Besides, a bit of walking will do this community some good.

  • KsKitty

Hmm. This is a show I might actually GO to….

  • Einstein

I doubt many think like you, there are buses, taxis, off-site shuttles, and regular parking that most people will be more than happy to use to see these concerts. I haven’t heard from anyone who has had problems with parking yet (except for those who think they might have problems but will never know because just thinking about it scares them away).

  • wsushox1

Good Stuff. So far the Arena is doing what it was supposed to do….bring in big name acts.

  • GetAGrip

Let me get this straight. First people complain that the Arena hasn’t booked any “big” acts. Now we get word that maybe, just maybe, an artist who has sold over 120 MILLION albums worldwide may be coming. And yet the first two posts on this forum are complaints?

    Stay classy, Wichita.

  • appprog

Most of the parking at the Intrust Arena is closer than a lot of the parking at the Colesium; so stop the whining!!!! IT IS GETTING REAL OLD!!!!!!!
    SO SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • kriss1231

Fight the parking? R U kidding me? Take public transportation, maybe carpool. Hey, park a few blocks away and walk. It’s good for your health.
I live in a large city and fortunate I have my pick of many entertainment venues. I don’t let parking stress me out.

    “Take public transportation, maybe carpool.”

public transportation? Last i checked, we don’t have any public transportation.

  • taterfan64

martinobeano–You’ve got to be kidding me?!? Bon Jovi may have been around awhile but they are still extremely popular and have sell out concerts.

newsletter–I guess you’ve never been driving behind one of the city buses when they’ve pulled over at a stop to pick up people.

  • ladybug1997

    Bon Jovi! not!!

  • zinger526

I think they need to be working on the Face2Face tour with elton john and billy joel.

  • workerbee

I drove to Kansas City to see him the last time he was there. They may have been around for a while but they still put on a great show!

  • Jesse2337

Sharno obviously has an agenda…no one in their right mind would avoid seeing an act they liked simply because they couldn’t park next to the arena. Unless of course they were morbidly obese…are you fat Sharno? You could probably get a little scooter or maybe even qualify for handicapped parking if you wanted to see Bon Jovi that bad.

Bon Jovi’s a good guy and has a good catalog, but no one should think that he’s a “big name act” that only the arena could bring. He came to the Colosseum in the late 80′s with Skid Row at the height of his popularity…this isn’t that big of deal.

  • TILII

    Just another has been.

  • majorfire15

It’s not country! We’re making progress!

  • Melon

Have you actually looked at the parking plan Sharno? Have you been to concerts and events in larger cities? I am so tired of hearing about the parking issue. Granted our city leaders did not seem to respond quickly enough to the concern but overall this project has gone very well and I am willing to walk. We don’t have the kind of crime larger cities have. My concern is more with ticket prices considering all the unemployed people we have in this city. I hope everyone will get out and see what downtown has to offer and see a show. Our city is a great place and I look forward to a thriving downtown in the future!

  • Melon

Zinger…I like where you are going! BJ and EJ would be incredible!

  • geogirl

I think this is absolutely great! Another great act lined up for the new arena!!!

  • simon806

Finally an act worth seeing !

  • pas_beancounter

Very excited to see Boni Jovi coming to Wichita. Should be a great concert. The live “announcement” concert is still going strong online.

    Flibby: right on the mark.

Melon: good positive thoughts, but one thing you might revise is the statement that “we don’t have the kind of crime larger cities have.” That’s not true. Wichita is a relatively dangerous city by statistics and by just old common sense. I feel safer on the streets in many larger cities that are assumed to be more dangerous. But look at the statistics and you will find that isn’t true.

People miss the mark on Wichita. It already is a big city and has big city problems. Not addressing this reality just makes things worse. Having a ghost town downtown surrounded on three sides by run-down areas just creates a void at the center that shows people do not care about the city. And that breeds crime. Whatever the city and its citizens can do to fix downtown and renovate the adjacent areas will pay dividends in a better quality of life for everyone. Unless you’re someone who just wants to live in an armed compound on the outskirts, and live in fear whenever you venture outside.

  • daisykfaith

Finally they booked an awesome act at the arena!! Hurray!

  • Melon

Enigma…I’m with you for the most part but I disagree that downtown is completely surrounded by run-down areas. I live in Riverside which is an excellent community..one in which I hope will thrive with the investment in downtown and people return to neighborhoods with great history. There are some marginal streets in between downtown and College Hill. No doubt we have problems with crime…maybe I just don’t want to think we have just as much as a bigger city like Kansas City or Oklahoma City.

  • bleach13

This is a great! This is what an opening act should be. It appeals to a majority of the county. Sorry rap fans it’s just not going to happen. Also look at the concert schedule and Bon Jovi is going a little out of the way to come play for us.

And I am willing to walk 6 blocks to go to an event downtown but thats because I am not lazy I guess….

  • ladybug1997

    who cares

  • bconaway

This is great news! I’ve been really happy with the acts booked so far. Now, if only they’d get Poison, Motley Crue, George Strait, and Reba…

  • Jesse2337

HA! Bonjovi.com has the address of the Colosseum listed!

  • piddle

Yes!!! I can’t wait to see Bon Jovi. I thought I was going to have to go to OKC again to see them. Now they just need to get Kenny Chesney and I will be set.

  • aircapguy

enigma, You say Wichita is a relatively dangerous city by statistics and by just old common sense. I feel safer on the streets in many larger cities that are assumed to be more dangerous. But look at the statistics and you will find that isn’t true…. Well I looked up the crime satistics on City Rating.com and you are wrong. I charted the crime satistics for Wichita, Little Rock Ark, Denver Co, Des Moines Ia, Kansas City Mo, Omaha Neb, Oklahoma City Ok, Tulsa Ok, Dallas Tx and Albuquerque N.M. These 10 cities are rated in 10 different crime categories, Thats total of 100 different numerical ratings for all cities combined. Wichita ranked lower in all but 17 of these ratings among these cities. Des Moines had the lowest crime ratings with Wichita and Denver very close behind Des Moines. The murder rates in all but Des Moines are much higher than Wichita’s. Little Rock, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Dallas have much higher crime rates than Wichita in almost every crime category. All crime satistics on violent crime and property crime rates are done by capital rates by per thousand population. I am not saying Wichita has no crime but lets put in it in perspective. Watched Bon Jovi and they put on a good act.

VERY ENCOURAGING! As for parking – IF the city/county follow recommendations with parking at city hall, county building, L-D, WaterWalk etc AND tie them together with a COMPREHENSIVE set of Q-Line shuttles it can work. The current run of Wicked with the other events at C-II can be viewed as a small-scale dry run. As many others have said – we need to walk more. Gotta work off that cheeseburger I just ate in Old Town! (and that dessert I’m going to have afterward in Delano!)

  • Lakepowell

Though the shows announced so far aren’t really for me, I do believe that we are heading in the right direction. I mean it’s been a long time since Wichita has had these big of shows, with more coming. I am hoping that Van Halen (with David Lee Roth), Kiss, and Green Day will announce a Wichita stop. They will all touring in 2010.
As far as the parking goes, quit wasting your time whining about it and go out and scout the area out ahead of time and see what works best for you.

Thank you!!! Finally a voice of reason. And by the way, there is a reason Bon Jovi is still selling out arenas 20 years later.

  • brainsmasher

I am happy for the country fans and Bon Jovi fans. There really isn’t any musical act that could get me to go to the arena. I might go just to see the arena.
