Get your iPhone; 3G is here

I wrote back in July that a reader was upset that AT&T advertised the iPhone’s 3G speed but failed to mention that the 3G network wasn’t available in Wichita.

Well, the wait is over. Friends with iPhone’s started reporting earlier this week that the 3G started popping up on their phones. I’m sure all of you with iPhones already noticed that. But if you were waiting, now is the time.

My phone doesn’t seem to be registering the 3G service. The screen still includes the “E” for EDGE, which is the previous digital data technology. Should my screen show something different when it’s on 3G?

Yes, it should change to 3G. Where in town are you? Most everyone I know is downtown when we’ve been talking about, although another guy I know lives near Central and Tyler and gets it there. I suppose it’s not all over Wichita yet. Or there could be some settings on your phone. I don’t know.

Go to settings – general and make sure 3G is turned on. Might be user wifi/wireless, but pretty sure it’s under general

ATT might just 200 bucks from me tomorrow. But their online maps still don’t show 3G in the area.

3G is coming soon to an area near you. I hear the official kick off is next month. The system is coming on line now to be ready for that.

Will it included cities around Wichita, like Andover, Augusta and El Dorado?

Popped up on my Razr ATT phone. But as somebody mentioned if it spread to the outline areas.

It was on in El Dorado when I was there yesterday, but not in Hutch. So I think it might be limited to the 316 area code.

I did a quick search and found the coverage map.

Cool, thanks jdl. I went in and enabled 3G on my settings, and it’s now working on my phone. Appreciate the tip.

I went and bought my 3G iPhone on Friday, and 3G works great in Augusta. If anyone has a 1st Gen iPhone they want to get rid of, let me know, I will buy it.
