Boeing Wichita employees modified the massive Boeing 747 used as the platform. The Airborne Laser program uses lethal high-energy laser beams to shoot down ballistic missiles while they’re in their boost phase. The plan is to shoot down a missile in 2009.
This capability will change “how we fight and win wars,” said an Air Force official.
