Shockers

How could anyone like their chances today against Creighton? Wichita State hasn’t won in Omaha in 15 years. The last time it happened, Paul Wight was the Shockers’ center. He’s now retired from professional wrestling.

I think WSU is finished. I think the mental drain from this long season has taken its toll and I’m not so sure everyone wouldn’t be better served if the Shockers’ season ended swiftly in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament next week. Under normal circumstances I would never suggest such a thing. I’m all about fighting until the bitter end. But I think the bitter end is here.

I agree. As previously stated, WSU administration and some die hard fans, will want them to continue. Better to just retire after the season rather than get sent somewhere to play in the NIT.

This has been a very tough season. After flying so high in Dec and then to crash and burn in Jan and Feb. Coach Turgeon must be using Just for Men ‘cuz I know his hair is whiter than it looks after this season. I will be interested to see how he handles the team next season. Maybe you could do a column on that subject?

bob–the shocker margin for error has been thin. miller is really missed. not having a big mam has killed this team. there has been a lot of pressure on the returnees. the vallye is deeper, too.

I think that WSU will beat Missouri State on Friday and then who knows. But even if they lose early in the MVC tournament, the beauty of the MVC is that their tournament is a week earlier than everyone else. That is a good break for a team like WSU, who might be down now, to get refreshed for a tournament run. I hope they get in the NIT and maybe with a break to recharge, we might see some excitementfrom them. Playing in the NIT could only help the players for next year. I see no downside.

Thanks for the entertainment. I am a fellow Wichitan currently in Russia to get our eighth child. I enjoy you and Bruce on the radio each day. I am a former high school girls basketball coach, former baseball coach and current high school baseball umpire, but mostly a father. Concerning the arena, people need to chill out and realize how lucky they are to live in America and specifically Wichita. What great opportunities we have, compared to other countries. Many Wichitans wouldn’t last one day here. They complain about walking five blocks to the new arena. People here walk everywhere! No cars, no public transportation, just walking. So please, my fellow Wichitans, get over yourselves and your easy lives and embrace all that is good about Wichita, including the new arena. You don’t know how lucky you are!
