Random thoughts

  • It’s been three weeks, I think, since The Departed hit movie theaters and I still haven’t seen it. Shameful, especially since Jack Nicholson is my all-time favorite actor. I need to see that movie.
  • Like my good friend Denise Neil, I have given up watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
  • I sometimes read message boards for sports teams. They usually give fans a bad name. If you’re a fan of a team, try to put things into perspective. Please. I can’t imagine a bigger fan of the St. Louis Cardinals than me, but I would never post a message on a board. Of course I have opinions about the team. But I’m pretty darn happy, considering the Cardnials have been to the playoffs five times in six years. It doesn’t take a World Series championship to satisfy me. Although one would be nice. It’s been 24 years.
  • I love reading USA Today. And my favorite magazine is Esquire, along with Sports Illustrated.
  • I get really nervous when I think about terrorism and the way the United States is dealing with the world right now. Common sense tells me we’re on the wrong path, but I’m also intelligent enough to know it’s not an easy path to find, let alone follow. Dealing with the threats that face the U.S. _ and, more encompassing, freedom _ is complicated and there is no blueprint to follow.
  • I’m going to try and follow the regular season of the NBA more this season. I’ve lost some interest in recent years.
  • College basketball is going to be an absolute blast.
