Pastor Mike

Pastor Mike, we have not yet been to lunch together. Let’s make that happen this week. I have enjoyed our communciation through this blog and on the radio show.

Speaking of the radio show (Sports Daily, 9-11 a.m. weekdays on KFH, 1240-AM, 98.7-FM), it is one of the great joys of my life. While I will always first and foremost be a writer, I also have grown to love doing this show. I have enjoyed my relationship with Bruce Haertl and the others who contribute to this show. It’s fun just to let things fly without the concern of editing or stepping on toes or whatever. And the people at Entercom, which owns KFH, have always been supportive.

Sports Daily began on Sept. 11, 2000, one year before the tragedy of 9/11. So Monday marks the six-year anniversary of the show, which started with Bruce, Jim Kobbe and Jarrod Bartlett. I joined the show as a replacement for Kobbe in February, 2001. And, amazingly, I was co-hosting the show with Jarrod on 9/11 when the planes flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Those memories will always be vivid in my mind; I remember we were doing an interview with sportswriter Kevin Haskin of the Topeka Capital-Journal at the time we realized something terrible was happening in New York City.
