American Idol

Elliott Yamin, your time has come.

Not that you’re not talented. And you’re obviously a good guy.

But Katharine and Taylor are clearly the two frontrunners. I thought Katharine’s performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was the best of the season. But I wish she would just stand up during all of her songs. What’s the sitting down all about? The girl has a great voice and a bright future, but she is badly in need of someone to manage her career.

Taylor is already a full-fledged performer. My problem with him is that I believe he will be difficult to market. He doesn’t really have a style, and the music industry these days is all about having a style. That’s not a good thing, but I don’t think Taylor will find it easy to find a niche.

Next week will be interesting. You couldn’t ask for two more contrasting styles. I think Katharine is the better singer, but Taylor is the better performer. He knows who he is and that’s probably one of the things that will win the competition for him.

I agree with your comments. If Katharine knew how to pick a song, she would win hands down. Her second song (that Simon picked) was awesome. She keeps trying to sing with power when she needs to just sing the melody. On the other hand, Taylor knows how to play to the audience and to his strengths. If Katherine could figure that out, she’s got the rest of the package to be a star. If Taylor wins, he’ll be like Fantasia and Reuben. He’ll do better than he would have but he’ll never be a star.

If Katherine can put together 3 songs like her 2nd, she’ll blow Taylor away. Some people will vote for her just because Taylor annoys them.

Well, I guess you can appreciate Katharine if you’re willing to forgive the Goddess of Inconsistent. People say that Elliot oversings, but Katharine not only oversings, she also misses notes (the number of flats and sharps that she committed during the season is just astonishing). Having said that, when she nails it, she nails it. All things being equal, based on this week’s performances, the top two are the correct top two, but honestly, it’s a shame she wasn’t voted off of the show last week when she caterwauled her way through “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and screwed the pooch on the lyrics to “Hound Dog/All Shook Up.” Elliot may be boring, but at least he was consistent, and at the end of the day, he is the one whose CD I’ll actually want to hear.
