I have talked to numerous people who have no intention of seeing this movie, for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of the reminders of Sept. 11 and the emotional toll it took. It’s too season, many of my friends believe, to see a movie based on this horrible tragedy.
I understand their point. But I saw the movie today, with my son. It was excruciatingly painful to watch, but my believe is that, by seeing the movie, I was paying honor to the brave people on United 93, who overtook terrorists and forced their plane down in a Pennsylvania field before it had a chance to reach its intended target, the nation’s Capitol building.
The movie is a stark reminder of just how unprepared we were for something so unfathomable. How it hit us completely out of the blue and shook us to our core.
Am I glad I saw the movie? I can’t say that. Not yet. I do know how much I admire the people who were on that flight and, through no choice of their own, were put into an impossible situation. It made me think of what I would do in such a spot. I know what I hope I would do.
The relatives of those Americans who died on United 93 support this movie. And I’m glad it was made. It’s not for everybody. Five years does not even come close to closing the wounds of something like this.
I’m curious what everyone who reads this blog thinks. Have you seen the movie? Will you?
