American Idol

If you listen to Sports Daily _ and I’m sure you do _ you know I constantly get beat up by Bruce Haertl for talking about American Idol. Yet I continue to talk about it, because I love the show. That’s right, I love the show.

Well, I’m worried after watching Tuesday night’s edition, during which the seven remaining contestants sang the standards. I’m worried because I fear Kellie Pickler, who has an adorable personality and pretty good talent, might be voted off tonight. She was easily the worst of the singers Tuesday, but in typical Pickler fashion she admitted as much after her performance. "I butchered it,” was her direct quote.

Well, I hope the voters keep Kellie. I still want to see Ace go away.

d I’m standing by my favorite from the very beginning, Katherine McPhee, who was great while singing Someone to Watch Over Me, which just also happens to be one of my personal favorites. Katherine has it all: good looks, great talent and a presence that would make you swear she’s been doing this forever. She might not win the competition, but she will go on to be the biggest star out of this group.

Let me know what you think.

My vote, 1 through 7 after Tuesday:

1. Katherine McPhee
2. Chris Daughtry
3. Paris Bennett
4. Taylor Hicks
5. Elliott Yamin
6. Kellie Pickler
7. Ace Young

Get well Suzanne

I’m sorry to hear about the bad fortune of my Eagle blogosphere cohort, Suzanne Tobias, who broke her leg yesterday while looking at cars.

Funny, I usually feel like breaking the leg of the dealer when I’m looking at cars. Apparently, though, Suzanne tripped when quoted a price and snapped her leg in two. I apologize for the graphic nature of that description, but I hold no punches.

Suzanne’s blog is far more creative and interesting than mine. She talks a lot about her kids, her husband, her job, her family, her dogs, her cats. I have just one kid and he’s 23. I have no husband, or wife. I have mentioned Denise a couple of times on my blog, which always brings interesting responses from people. Especially from Denise. I don’t have a dog or a cat. My parents are both deceased. So you can see, Suzanne has better material.

That doesn’t mean my blog isn’t wonderful. It is. I mean, really, it is. And I even have some faithful readers, although I notice a lot of them also read Suzanne’s blog, which is kind of like cheating. I noticed today on her blog that her ghost writer, Alice Sky, filled in and asked readers to submit their good wishes for Suzanne. There were quite a few responses last time I checked.

That was cheap way of eliciting responses, Alice. I guess I could go break my leg and play the sympathy card, too. But I’m above that.

Anyway, the point of this blog entry is to wish Suzanne a speedy recovery. We’ll miss you.
