That was my nickname in high school, when I was regarded by many as a world-class ice skater. Oh, those were the days. While my friends played baseball and basketball and football, I dressed in sequins and skated.
OK, that’s all a really dumb lie. Actually, I have never ice skated in my life. But that changes Thursday when I’m going to do a little skating. Why, you ask? Because I can. And because life is all about doing things you have never done. Wish me luck. I’m told it’s not that difficult once you get the hang of it. Any truth to that?

Your going to be a figure skater! It’s not hockey your trying. Different skates. Some one might get you sequins to glue on your shirts!
That effort has to be a date dare.
Think I read you spent no moments watching the winter olympics. But every four years I see speed skating.
I’m thinking a better facility that would incorporate a long track speed skating oval, a hockey rink would fit in the middle. Short track speed skating fits inside a hockey rink.
I checked out http://www.speedskating.org
Milwaukee has a ice track oval facility called the Petitt National Ice Center.
A layout of the ice track can be seen at

Current location of our ice rink isn’t doing well. The mission is flawed. One or the other type of skating on ice. Figure skating or hockey.
I bet Wichitans would like to try speed skating on a oval and roller blading racing outside on a long track or whatever they use to time those events.
Check out these skates for land anywhere,

The city owns our ice rink, maybe a deal can be made to build a better facility somewhere else that has more choices of ice disciplines. Incorporate a roller blading track on the same lot.
I’m searching the GIS maps of downtown for a location site. Doesn’t BigDog want to move east off of their Douglas location. Cleared, that expansive of land looks like it has parking and space for what I’ve imagined. That area of town.
I don’t think the current ice rink, no matter who runs it, will financially work. Few guys want to FIGURE skate and hockey is only for some people. Once sheet of ice not enough time for those who need hours on it.
Sounds to me like your new girl is trying to hurt you. If/when she suggest parachuting, go out of town on assignment for a few days until the urge passes.
It’s very similar to roller skating. My advice is wear padded clothes or lots of layers. And lace your skates TIGHT!!!
Bob–good luck with the skating. That ice is slick, so watch out. Perhaps this experience will give you a bit more appriciation for one of the most difficult, most demanding, and most fun to watch sports out there–Hockey.
Bob,
What’s next — are you going to put on some short pants and try playing some indoor soccer? Now THAT would be a picture! And didn’t Wichita already have a sportscaster who used to do the “I’ll try anything once!” feature?
