Mike Jones

The coolest thing happened today during the Shockers’ shootaround at the Greensboro Coliseum. Mike Jones, the former Wichita State player who made the 25-foot shot that essentially beat Kansas in The Battle of New Orleans 25 years ago, was there.

We looked around and saw him in the stands and arranged with the arena’s security people to allow him to come to the floor and re-enact the shot. I’m sure that photograph will appear in tomorrow morning’s Eagle.

It was great to see Mike, who lives close to Greensboro and is involved in a business that helps the handicapped. After he took three shots _ and made the third _ he huddled with the current Shockers and gave them a little pep talk.

Great moment.
