I watch a lot of television. It’s true. I have found that watching TV is easier than reading books and actually thinking.
Having said that, my favorite television show of the moment is 24. It’s in its fifth season and I never miss an episode.
Never!
If it’s Monday between 8 and 9 p.m., you know what I’m doing.
This season has been typically brilliant and Jack Bauer is involved in saving the world for the fifth time. He is chasing terrorists who want to unleash nerve gas on American soil and so far their plan is unfolding.
Kiefer Sutherland was born to play the Jack Bauer role. So far, in five seasons of 24, he has been responsible for ridding the world of 107 wrongful souls. There is probably more killing on 24 than any other show in history. It makes The Sopranos look like Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
The show includes a goofy-acting president and his not-all-there wife, which isn’t exactly a stretch. Just kidding, all of you Bush people. It has great character, especially Chloe and Edgar in the ICU office. You don’t know who is good and who is bad. The action is non-stop. An hour of this show skips by in what seems like a few minutes.
If you watch, share your thoughts.

Bob,
Thanks for the blog on 24, I do think it is the best and fastest hour on TV. It always leaves you wanting more. The show has characters you can eithier love or hate. Is there any character that can kick butt as good as Jack? He will try to maintain the safety and security of this country at any costs. I find it interesting how much the president looks like Richard Nixson. He seems to make as many unrational decisions as the former president did. I am just waiting for the watergate tape to be introduced on the show. I think the thing that grabs me the most and keeps me coming back, is the unexpected events that keep happening. Who would have thought that they would kill off former president Palmer on the first show. Or to actually allow some of the nerve gas to escape in the mall. what I love is when one tragedy is avoided there is usally another that is worse waiting in the wings. I am looking forward to see how they bring back Jacks daughter to this seasons episodes. What kind of danger will she be put in this time? Anyways I hope that you continue to have 24 updates every week because I know there is stuff I miss.
Dittos……. 24 Rocks !!
I would never have known about it if you hadn’t hyped it on your excellent AM radio show…. Did you see the little blurb in the paper Tuesday ? Special 2-hour show on March 6th….. also Kim will be back next month !!
I like Chloe and her wierd facial expressions……… I hope she and Edgar hook up sometime….
Maybe W should hire Jack to find Bin Laden , or at least to give Cheney some shooting lessons…….. Tom
One wasted weekend last year a friend loaned me the boxed set of season 3. Once you get started you can’t stop — (”just one more hour” — not!). That’s really the best way to watch the show in my opinion, although I’m right there with you every Monday night for season 5. In the NCAA tournament of great kick-butt heroes, Jack Bauer is the #1 seed in the Midwest, to go with James Bond (East), John Wayne (West) and Rambo.
I am obsessed with this show. I even Tivo old episodes from seasons 1-4 just to re-watch them when nothing else is on. To be honest, I was late to the party. I started watching the show about a year ago through my Netflix subscription. Watched the first episode of Season 1 and was hooked. Skip ahead to New Year’s weekend of this year. My Netflix subscription is 3 discs at a time and I’d watched disc 1-3 of Season 4. I knew we wouldn’t get discs 4-6 in time for the New Year’s weekend. Solution: Trip to Wal-Mart to buy Season 4 so we could finish the show over the long weekend. I later bought Seasons 1-3.
My wife and I spent many a night not being able to shut of the dvd player because we had to go on to the next episode to see what happens next. The dvd’s have spoiled me too. This season is the first season I’ve watched live on TV. Waiting a whole week for just one episode is brutal when you’ve zoomed through on the dvd’s.
Bob,
As you know, I love 24! I do not get to watch much TV, and presently I’m teaching a college course on Monday evenings. Thank the Lord for DVR’s! I think what makes the show so exciting is the story lines that “pop up” for just a few minutes (the Russian girl who shoots the bad guy - the little girl who is impacted by the nerve gas that Jack saves). It just keeps you on the edge of your seat! In fact this week I was tied up and didn’t get to talk with you about this weeks episode. I feel incomplete, but there are just a few more days until the next episode!
Talk to you soon!
