American Idol

Check here for weekly updates on American Idol, a show I have to watch.

Why, I don’t know. But why spend time questioning yourself?

As for Tuesday’s abbreviated one-hour show, cut back so we could hear President Bush (yawn), I saw a whole lot of bad singers. Almost all of those who auditioned were bad. Sad to say, but the auditioning for this show is more of a freak show than a talent show _ at least the parts they show us on television.

Two people were shown crying their eyes out after being turned down by Simon, Paula and Randy. People, do you really not know how terrible you are? I don’t understand. Who in the world could possibly be telling some of these singers they can sing? Because they can’t.

I loved the girl, Princess Brewer, who was asked to compare herself to another singer. She chose Aretha Franklin. But she sang like Ben Franklin.

The only semblance of talent was 18-year-old Mecca Madson, a belly dancer with decent chops. She was invited to Los Angeles, but she won’t go far.

Las Vegas was pretty much a bust. Hopefully, Wednesday night will be better.

Only Bob would know what Ben Franklin sings like.

Bob I hope you are kidding about watching the show! IT SUCKS!!! I thought that you had to be going somewhere with that blog entry; making fun of stupid people, or people who really are addicted to the show, and cant live without it. Well I guess this blog is going somewhere….down the crapper. The host are either gay, rude, or slutty and I hope that all people who watch it fall of the Wichita Eagle roof. My god lets talk about sports!!!!

How can you say the belly dancer won’t go far? I thought she was cute, sang wonderfully and had personality. I bet she’ll make it to the final 12.

Bob, I too am addicted to the first part of American Idol. I cant believe some of the contestants are so ‘reality challenged’ when it comes to their own singing ability. Maybe its the shower syndrome where they think they sound so great in the shower or mom tells them how great they are. And they believe her ! I guess they never figured out that Moms lie like that. I dont know but I love watching the bad ones. Maybe its because I am glad its not me up there!

I too will admit to watching American Idol. This is the first season I have watched and will admit to looking forward to each new show. Surely some of these contestants have a friend or relative who tell them how horrible their act is before they get to national television. Have you noticed that the worse acts are the ones who are most certain they are one their way to future stardom? No matter what Simon tells them. Their ten minutes on the Jerry Springer Show gave them the taste of celebrity and they are addicted. One more question….who dresses these people?

A note for Chris Gadd. One of the reasons Bob started this blog was to engage his fans in subjects other than sports. He is a man of many parts. He has impressed me by not filling this blog with The Eagles concert memories. The only time he disappointed me was the other night at Koch Arena. He missed a golden opportunity the night he sat in the student section during the game. The thought of Bob body surfing across the student body is almost too good to be true.
