Enough turkey

Not much activity here on the ole blog. What’s with you people? I know it’s Thanksgiving weekend, but what’s more important _ spending time with loved ones or posting on my blog? I think it’s time we got our priorities straight.

My Thanksgiving _ and I appreciate you asking _ was outstanding. A great meal, a great movie (Walk the Line) and just an overall great time.

And I have enjoyed a little time off work, although what a tough loss for the Shockers today against Illinois. You know, you can take a moral victory out of that one if you want. But Wichita State should have won that game. The late-game disappointments are starting to add up, aren’t they? Is there something to that?

Tomorrow, it’s off to Lawrence to watch Kansas play Iowa State. The Jayhawks can wrap up a bowl bid. I don’t think they can beat Iowa State, though. But I didn’t think Nebraska could beat Colorado. And I didn’t think Texas A&M could hang with Texas as long as it did.

Hope everybody’s Thanksgiving was great. Get back to the blog when you can. It needs you.

yeah bob, i think thee is something to that. WSU faithfull are quick to oint out how much improvement the program has made. Last year many of the followers had them winning a ton of games, a lock for the NCAA’s blah blah blah. But the reality is that they don’t win when it’s crunch time. And until they figure out how to do that, they will continue to be average. They should have won that game. And the game they blew in the NIT as well. Big time teams win big time games. It’s time to come back to reality and stop living in the past and what could have been.

HEY BOB, just wanted to say hi, and tell you that I listen to sports daily every morning. Most of the time I find myself perturbed at you but I guess that what keeps me listening. Really though I enjoy the show. Now on to the SHOCKERS, me not being the expert you are! I was very suprised and happy that the SHOCKERS almost won this game. They fought tooth and nail with a nationally ranked team and had a chance to win in the end. You can’t ask for more than that from anyone, can you? I can only hope that they use it as a stepping stone. Well halftime is over on the KU vs IOWA ST game so i’m signing off. I will be listening mon at 9:00 so better bring your A game! LATER ,David Henderson

Bob, I want to hear some props for the Jayhawks, who came from behind with a backup quarterback and clinched their second bowl bid in three seasons. The ONLY Kansas team, I might add, to move on to the bowls this season. Enough blathering about WSU bilge, I wanna hear about KANSAS. Clue: Perhaps this is why your blog is so dead.

    Bob,
My thanksgiving was great other than my cowboys blowing the game at the end. For a sports fan like myself it was great so many good games this weekend. Glad to see the Shockers bounce back after the close game they had with the Illini. How about there patience on defence? How many times did Delaware State have shot clock violations? There was tons of good college football and the NFL was even entertaining on sunday. Including thursday there was four overtime games this weekend. This brings me to my biggest pet peve with the NFL. In those four overtime games three of them was won by the team that won the toss, and the other team never even got a chance to touch the ball.. I really, really, really hate that. I wish they would come up with another system where at least the other team gets one chance with the ball. Anyways glad your thanksgiving went well I look forward to your guys banter on the radio this week. Epecially when Brent comes in and tells you how much better Trent Green is than Tom Brady haha.

    Hey Bob-

How bout’ them J-hawks! I think Mark Mangino is my new favorite coach. I would love to see him enjoy the same success @ Kansas that Snyder had @ K-State. KU is overdue..but enough of that.

I’m curious, did your pal Schartz have complimentary things to say about Jeff Swortwood between the “more turkey, please” and “pass the gravy”? Leading 6A in passing is pretty huge, and in spite of not making it to the big game, Northwest had a whale of a season. Hopefully, our beloved Derby Panthers will be back in the mix next year after a beyond anemic season. This Bliss guy has really got his work cut out for him.

And finally…how bout’ dem Shocks! I’m pretty sure the Illinois coaches will be having another look at the game tapes from that one. I think Wichita State gave em’ all they wanted. You think Turgeon had a few gin and tonic’s after that one? So close…

“Walk the Line” is excellent. I thought “Capote” was even better (from an acting standpoint) as I’m a Phillip Seymore Hoffman fan.
    Go Fighting Mangino’s!

Sorry, Bob — just woke up from sleeping off the turkey.
I just worry that one of these days, WSU is going to pull that big upset, and the eyes of many athletic directors will be drawn to take a closer look at Mr. Turgeon — Maybe Lew Perkins up at KU when Bill Self tanks. (Yes, I’m still sore about Bucknell.)
And while I wish Mangino would take better care of himself, I’m glad to see that he dragged the Jayhawks into a bowl bid despite their QB difficulties. Any year when KU can beat Missouri and Nebraska is a great year.
