Report: Salina airport close to leasing buildings vacated by Hawker Beechcraft

The Salina Airport Authority is in lease negotiations with prospective tenants for two buildings vacated by Hawker Beechcraft, the Salina Journal reports. Hawker Beechcraft is closing its Salina operations in 12 days, it said.

The authority did not release the names of the tenants. But both leases could mean a boost in rent revenue should the parties complete a lease agreement.

Hawker Beechcraft paid 88 cents a square foot a year for 484,000 square feet of space it rented from the airport authority, the Salina Journal said. The company, originally named Beech Aircraft Corp., has leased space at the airport since 1966.

One potential tenant, a woodworking company, would pay a minimum of $3 a square foot in the first year, with yearly increases, the report said.

The second potential tenant would lease 45,032 square feet of space for $1.50 a square foot, it said.
