Miami, I hardly knew ye

Day 2. I’m at the Miami airport and so far, flights seem to be on-time.

I got diverted here yesterday after flight cancellations in Chicago. The Doubletree was a nice welcome this morning about 1. And I’ve run into several travelers whose travel plans were also disrupted.

Two were trying to get to Curacoa and one woman and her little boy were going to baggage claim this morning to get her bag. It didn’t make it last night, and her rescheduled flight doesn’t leave until 11 p.m.

It doesn’t take a lot to get the system out of whack. Airlines have cut capacity in the downturn, and high fuel prices haven’t helped.

So when there are a lot of flight cancellations, getting rerouted is interesting, especially on international flights.

My flight to Boston boards in five minutes. Then, God willing, I’m on to Madrid and, finally, Nantes, France.
