Severe weather led to 29,000 canceled flights

If severe weather hampered your air travel over the holidays, you’re not alone. North American carriers canceled more than 29,000 flights last month.

Only 68 percent of the flights were on-time at their gates in December, according to FlightStats.

There were 29,391 canceled flights in December, compared to 21,054 cancellations in December 2009.

Six airlines, however, turned in an 80 percent or better on-time performance for the month, FlightStats said. Hawaiian Airlines was the top performer with 87 percent of their flights on-time, followed by AirTran Airways, United Airlines, Mesa Airlines, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines.

CIT owns or finances more than 300 commercial aircraft, including 140 Boeing aircraft.

Including the new order, the company has 111 aircraft on order, including 58 orders for Boeing aircraft.
