Spirit AeroSystems donates land to Kansas Aviation Museum; museum to create Aviation Restoration Facility

Spirit AeroSystems has donated 15 acres of land to the Kansas Aviation Museum. The land is just north of the Wichita Air Terminal at the museum, Wichita’s first airport terminal building.

The property was the site of the Boeing Radar and Antennae range from the late 1940s through the mid-1980s.

Included in the gift are four structures. The museum plans to convert three to restore historic planes important to Wichita and the state’s aviation history.

The additional space allows the museum to work with local institutions of higher learning to offer internships to train future professionals into the “subtle nuances of airplane restoration,” the museum said.
