Onex’s Nigel Wright resigns from Hawker, Spirit boards

Onex managing director Nigel Wright has resigned from the boards of directors of Spirit AeroSystems and Hawker Beechcraft, the companies said in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Wright resigned from the boards to accept an appointment as chief of staff to Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada.

Wright was the face of Onex in Wichita during the investment firm’s purchase of Boeing’s commercial aircraft division in 2005, which became Spirit AeroSystems. He also worked with Goldman Sachs to buy Raytheon Aircraft in 2006. After the purchase, the company was renamed Hawker Beechcraft Corp.

Onex Corp. and Wright have also agreed to a temporary leave of absence as an Onex executive, according to CBC News. That has sparked calls for a conflict-of-interest probe.  Wright would return to his position with Onex in 2012, the report said.
