It’s not often you can watch an airplane land on a golf course.
But as golfers relaxed after rounds of golf Sunday during the Wichita Aero Club’s tournament at Crestview Country Club, Cessna pilot Kirby Ortega landed the Skycatcher on the 18th fairway.
The plane belongs to Rose Pelton, wife of Cessna CEO and president Jack Pelton. Rose Pelton is learning to fly in the airplane. The two were part of the crowd watching as the plane came into sight, landed, then turned and taxied closer.
More than 100 golfers participated in the Aero Club’s inaugural golf tournament.
Carrie Lindeman from B&S Aircraft e-mailed photos from the company’s exhibit at EAA’s AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, Wis., last week.
The show’s theme this year was “Salute to Veterans.” B&S honored combat veteran Capt. Brian Brennan at its exhibit.
Brennan was injured in Afghanistan when an IED exploded under the Humvee he was traveling in. He was one of two survivors. Brennan, a double amputee, has set up a foundation to help others injured in the line of duty: www.brennanstandsalone.org.
B&S Aircraft’s exhibit also had a banner for visitors to sign to thank the troops.
“The banner was such a hit, it was filled with messages after the first two days and a second banner had to be produced,” Lindeman said in her e-mail. The banners will be sent to troops in Afghanistan.
