WWII B-17 bomber Liberty Belle coming to Wichita

A restored World War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, called the Liberty Belle, will be at Jabara Airport at 3512 N. Webb Road on May 29 and 30.

The plane is one of 14 B-17s still flying. The majority of the B-17s in WWII were operated  in Europe and were in countless missions from bases deep into enemy territory.

Of the 12,732 B-17s produced, 4,735 were lost in combat. The Liberty Belle was built toward the end of the war and wasn’t used in combat.

The Liberty Foundation is offering flights in the B-17. Cost is $395 for Liberty Foundation members and $430 for nonmembers.
