Former Wichitan and Texas aviation and business icon William Paul Thayer died Thursday. according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He was 90.
Thayer was a World War II fighter ace, a longtime Chance Vought test pilot and executive and eventually chief executive of LTV Corp. He was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Wichita and was a graduate of the University of Kansas.
