Belite Aircraft owner introducing Belite Electronics

beliteJames Wiebe, CEO of Belite Aircraft, has another new venture. Wiebe has started Belite Electronics, offering avionics suited for experimental and homebuilt aircraft.

The individual instruments weigh half an ounce and are designed to fit into the instrument panels of the planes.

The line is called the Patch Flyer. Many of the instruments can be carried in the pilot’s flight bag.

Instruments in the line include a vertical speed indicator, air speed indicator, turn-rate indicator, above ground level altimeter, inclinometer, positive G meter, battery condition voltmeter, volt minimeter, cylinder head/exhaust gas temperature gauge and a fuel gauge.

Wiebe is unveiling the line at the Sun ‘N Fun Fly-In and Expo at Lakeland, Fla. The show runs April 13 to 18 at the Linder Regional Airport.

He will also have the Belite Superlite aircraft on display. He has made several modifications to the tricycle gear version of the aircraft.

Boeing 787 facility in Charleston taking shape

dreamlinerConstruction of Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner facility in Charleston, S.C. is making visible progress.  The first steel column has been installed at the 1.2 million square-foot site, the company reports.

The facility will perform final assembly of the 787 and deliver the planes to customers around the world. Production is scheduled to begin in July 2011. Boeing will deliver the first 787 built in Charleston in the first quarter of 2012.
