Spirit AeroSystems‘ engineering union expects the company to present a counterproposal on a labor agreement today, the union said.
“We remain far apart on major issues,” officials of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace said in a memo. “While the company is showing signs that movement may be possible on some issues, negotiations are very difficult.”
The two sides are in the midst of negotiating a new contract for more than 700 Spirit AeroSystems engineers.
The current contract is scheduled to expire July 11. But provisions have been made to extend the contract if it’s necessary, the union said.

Let’s go ahead and make big issues out of this. Afterall, you are far too valuable to lose your jobs. Better yet, let’s strike and get everyone that is left laid off.
There is only one side if a union is involved !
So is there a really a possibility that SPEEA will strike after the fiasco that created the huge amount of delays in Boeing? SPEEA will be so much loved in the near future with the votes of the employees that are part of SPEEA. Like I stated in the past, don’t bite the hand that feeds you, especially if you make money where so many others do not have that.
Union and Spirit should just call a stalemate and automatically extend the current contract for 2 years or until the 787 delivers 10 aircrafts.
