Personal stories from Cessna

A good friend called this morning. She’s been worried about her son-in-law, who’s worked at Cessna Aircraft for 11 years in production. He was braced to get a 60-day layoff notice today.

Thankfully, he was spared this morning. Another son-in-law wasn’t so lucky. He was laid off in an earlier round of cuts.

A Cessna employee called me this morning as well. He didn’t get laid off, but was aching for those who were. We all are.

As Cessna’s head of marketing Tom Aniello told me for a story this week, the folks in marketing, sales and in management take all of this very seriously. They’re in a fight to sell airplanes so people can stay working, he said.

The market for new airplanes will come back. But it will take time.

In the meantime, let’s give a hand and a boost where we can to those who are feeling the effects from this down economy.

What about all of us from Hawker Beechcraft that got the ax back in November? A lot of us are still out of work and nearing the end of our unemployment benefit. Everyone seems to have forgotten about us. Now the market is overcrowded with laid off aircraft workers and there aren’t any decent paying jobs to be had in this area…

This is sad. So much out-sourcing. Big boys got greedy, but it doesn’t matter now. All the ISO
and other certifications are a waste when there are a lot of small manufacturing companies here in the USA… Well no one buying, no need to build , the people really don’t have a chance. I can suggest that we fight this regulations and get our country back, but will anyone listen?

The blog was in reaction to the news of the day. It wasn’t meant to forget employees who’ve been laid off at Hawker Beechcraft, Bombardier Learjet, or anywhere else, for that matter. The job reductions anywhere are hurtful.

Website coming to do like Tucker above suggests. We need to take our country back before it’s too late. We’re not radicals and we’re not trying to brainwash anyone. We are losing our manufacturing base because our politicians and Presidents are giving away all our jobs. Company CEO’s want more profit, and that means outsourcing. Then we have over 12 million illegals in this country that are breaking our laws, consuming our resources, and draining our state and local government of money that we all need to take care the legal citizens in this country. And we sit back and let them do it. The good Americans of this counrt need to join together and that back America before it too late.

There is no place left in this country that the lawyers, bankers and politicians haven’t plundered and ruined!

All the working folks are paying the bill so what now when no ones working!

Anyone get the big picture Yet?

We also have family members employed by Cessna.

We just can’t believe how bad the economy
is and how bad and fast it has hurt Cessna.

We feel for every single laid-off aircraft employee – not only because of the financial
burden of being without income, but also the
health insurance, and also your personal emotions.

We also know people who have lost their jobs – the husband AND the wife!

We are so sorry and just hope things get better, and SOON!

I recieved my notice of lay off from cessna sat. june 20th certified mail because i was already out on furlough. I had 11 years in out there on the floor doin sheet metal. I was able to take such good care of my family with those wages. I am still in shock. I feel like the rug has been pulled out from under my feet. A very devistating blow. Ya know, a storm or tornado can wreck your home, but you still have a job and insurance to be able to make the means to recover from that disaster. Not to mention the relief programs that come in with all their aide. How does a family recover from this disaster? A lay off of this magnitude is a storm in and of itself. Without that good paying job that made everything possible, or any disaster relief. You stand to lose everything. Yes there are other jobs out there, but to bring home the same income I would have to work 3 f/t $8.00 per hour jobs. For 40 hours a week at each workplace. Ok yes I know that doesn’t add up. That could hardly be possible. This is the very reason why I am freaking out. I ain’t the only one there are 8,000 other people that got laid off from cessna alone. That ain’t just 8,000 people it is 8,000 families, and that makes it so much bigger.

In my opinion, The entire corporate model needs to be changed, Everything is based on growth. If a conglomerate doesnt consistently show growth in the form of double digit ROIC then Wall Street takes said conglomerate out behind the barn. Hate the game, not the player. I guess what Im saying is why isnt it good enough that a company posts 100 million in profit year after year?
With that being said… I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Cessna had their best year EVER, then went in the dumpster in a matter of just a few months. As I understand it Textron used the massive profits of Cessna to prop up their failing finance division, now there is no cushion. Jobs are lost, families and dreams put on hold. It will come back, its just going to take a long time.
