Cessna to hand out hundreds of layoff notices today

More sad news at Cessna Aircraft.

Several hundred Cessna workers in Wichita are receiving 60-day layoff notices today. It’s a continuation of Cessna’s effort to cut 4,000 jobs in Wichita and 4,600 companywide as sales decline and order deferrals and cancellations increase.

Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver said he did not have specific numbers on the notices going out.

But others say the number will fall between 600 and 800.

    Thank you President O-pantsonfire.
I am so happy that you and the Pelosi freak show continually diss corporate jets.
It was only a job, but I guess it’s ok because you still have yours.

A strike with the gains that keep on giving. The us-againt-them mindset is really starting to pay off for the working man. How about another strike, or maybe we should punish more folks who fly corporate aviation. The unions are leading their membership down a path of extinction, but hey, at least BO is president now, thanks to the union vote. BO does appreciate the vote as he is stabbing the working man in the back. That’s it boys, keep on listening to the unions. They have it all figured out.

Stimulus tax break promotes private jet sales
Congress, critical of corporate jets, gives tax break to companies buying private planes
    , AP Business Writers
    Wednesday February 18, 2009,
WASHINGTON (AP) — Just a few months after lawmakers scolded auto executives for flying to Washington in private jets, Congress approved a tax break in the stimulus package to help businesses buy their own planes.

The incentive — first used to help plane makers recover from the 2001 terror attacks — sharply reduces the upfront tax bill for companies who buy assets such as business planes.

The aviation industry, which is cutting jobs as it suffers from declining shipments and canceled orders, hopes the tax break in the economic-stimulus bill just signed by President Barack Obama will persuade more companies to buy planes and snap a slump in general aviation that began last year.

“This is exactly the type of financial incentive that should be included in a stimulus bill,”

I challenge President Obama, to come to Wichita, Ks, the ”Air Capital” of the world and fix this mess they have made to meet with the aviation industry here; Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna, Bombardier (Lear jet), Spirit Aero Systems (formally Boeing Com.), and Boeing (Mil.) as well as the parts and manufacturing businesses that support the aviation industry in Wichita and Kansas. He can see first hand what his and congress’ misinformation and their attitudes toward corporate business jets/airplanes and the cause of this economy; and the irresponsible housing laws that got passed and encouraged in the Carter Clinton admins, Barney Frank and congress not overseeing the lending policies of the banking industry for real-estate and ignoring Pres. Bush and McCain when they tried to point it out and the resultant frozen credit has done to this industry. It will get worse here before it gets better.
It is plain to me that we need credit to be freeded up and tax breaks for all levels of income so jobs can be created again and businesses can do business and people can afford to run their busineses buy the tools/assets to run their businesses.
Then, someone needs to find out who is responsible for the irresponsible legislation of the subprime loans, lending and lendees, selling and buying the bad loans; all that caused the credit crunch that has spiraled this economy out of control out of fear. They need to be held accountable.

“…Only Barney Frank wanted less jets!! He is a cancer to any party.” OH REALLY, Shadow? Then how come the Nancy-in-the-box kept springing to her feet in outbreaks of applause during the Obamanation’s speech everytime he bashed on corporate CEOs and Company jets? Funny how that little commie hipocrit can do that with a straight face yet think it’s ok that she demanded her own personal 757 transport for shuttling her sorry butt back and forth to the Land of Fruits, Nuts and Flakes (San Fran, CA).

I guess George Orwell was right; “some animals ARE more equal than others.”

    April,

I am afraid that pasting in excerpts from the AP in no way can be considered the truth. You and Shadow need to start thinking for yourselves. Quit reading about what is happening and watch what the polticians are doing. The AP will tell you that there are no tanks in Bahgdad when they are rolling down the street if it makes BO look better. John F. Kennedy meant for folks to quit asking the government for handouts and to start producing for the country, that is exactly opposite of what BO and the unions are doing. How do we pull together today, April, when the Dumocrats are practicing the warfare tactic of class-envy. There are too many extremely stupid in the country who fall for that tactic and think the rich are the evil doer’s. April, maybe these discussions are a little over your head. Get back to work and don’t forget about the upcoming union meeting to get your marching orders that will help you shoot yourself in the foot while the leadership and BO have a great time at the resorts. They will need their dues check for the month as well. I guess someine is making money from the strikes.

Are you sick of hearing the same talk radio blowhards and cookie-cutter music on the radio in WICHITA?

By passing one bill, we can open the radio dial to thousands of stations with fresh new voices and alternative music, ending decades of radio domination by Big Media and their mouthpieces.

The Local Community Radio Act of 2009 (H.R. 1147) was just introduced in the House. The Act nearly passed in the last Congress with the support of more than 100 members.

With just a little urging from you, Rep. Tiahrt could be the deciding vote in this Congress and help usher in a new era of better radio:

Tell Congress to Open Up the Radio Dial

This Act would open up the airwaves to more Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations, creating a megaphone for new bands, fostering more local and independent news and giving people across the country a chance to break into radio. This is how we inject new blood into a radio system that could be better serving all of us.

Please get Rep. Tiahrt on board by clicking below and signing the letter:https://secure.freepress.net/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=299

The unions aren’t perfect. They still support too many who only have seniority, but aren’t as good at their job as others. However they do keep the companies from becoming king. We need both. They just both have to work together.

The stimulus is giving longer unemployment, more money in that check, help with insurance, more food stamps.

If we’ve got to go through this rough time, we have to have those things to help people dig their way out. My husband and I went through this in 1992 without those benefits. It hurt us for years.

President Obama didn’t do this to you. The last 8 years did this. No regulation of businesses, including banks and wall street and lots of new tax breaks for the wealthiest who shipped their money overseas. An expensive war that never should have happened helped tremendously too. It wasn’t even in the budget President Bush sent to Congress every year. He waited and would say now I need so many billions to continue the war. President Obama is putting THAT in his budget proposal. Smoke and mirrors before, but he is trying to be transparent.

Hope none of you who diss the stimulus need unemployment, help with insurance, or food stamps. Because in my opinion, if you take them, I call hypocrit. Help the situation, make compromises and do what you have to. That’s what should happen. That’s what President Obama is trying to make happen.

Barry is trying to be transparent!!!! Come on…… , pour the Kool-Aid out on the ground and then wake up and smell the coffee. Start thinking for yourself. As long as you let the media think for you, telling you what they want you to know and react to, and, as long as you think the government is the answer for your problems, whatever they may be, you will always live in the SHADOWS_. Break out and do your thing. This country, not the unions nor the rich (corporations included), even today, will allow you to do anything you want to get ahead and be prosperous. Think for yourself, that is the only way for you to get ahead in this world. You lose a job, get another one, live within your means, be frugal, you will come out ahead. If you blame one single other person for your problems, you are beaten. Go make something happen and depend on nobody, especially the government, but yourself.

Hope you weren’t commenting about me, because you’d be really wrong. I WORKED for Cessna in the 80’s during the big lay-offs and closings. I saw what I’m talking about. My husband worked for GE when he was layed off and it lasted 10 months for him and I.

I’m pro-union, but sometimes you’ve got to say what?

I saw people who didn’t call in kept on. I saw a co-worker who was in front of my line stop working because he’d met quota. Didn’t matter how much more I put out. We were done for the day. And that’s just the beginning.

On the company side, I saw overtime instituted when we had planes sitting in the field, then we got laid off. Yes, the company was stocking up for the lay-off. What if they HADN’T implemented the overtime?

Don’t even ASSUME you know where I’m coming from.

My husband still works close to aircraft, just not in a union shop.

They just had to lay off 19 employees, over 25% of their company. They paid them severance AND are paying their insurance until May 1. The WHOLE company has gotten bonuses every year because of sales. The company is great and has went out of their way to make a great work environment.

It goes both ways, I’ve seen it work. But sometimes even the best company has to lay off people.

Then you better hope you have plenty saved, have a great extended family or you better hope there are programs that can get you through to the other end without living on the street.

    My 2 cents.

If we want to create jobs, we MUST reverse the “outsourcing trend”. I propose no bailout help to companies until they bring the jobs back here. I am tired of talking to people in the phillipines about medical coverage benefits for US patients. My DSL line went down and I was hooked up to an expert in India who was going to fix it. Yeah, right.

Secondly, I have heard no talk from this new administration about the illegals in this country, I bet alot of laid off citizens would love a job.
