Cessna distributing layoff notices today

Cessna Aircraft is distributing sixty-day layoff notices today.

Last month, the company said it is forced to cut 500 jobs in Wichita and 165 at its site in Bend, Ore. as the company lowers its projected production rates for 2009 in a declining global economic environment.

About 150 people applied for a voluntary layoff program, the company said.  That figure also includes the Bend facility.  Some of the layoffs are mitigated from voluntary layoffs, but it isn’t a “one-for-one” situation, said Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver. He did not immediately know how many notices were being distributed.

Employee information sessions are being held this week for those who affected workers, the company said.

Their last day will be no later than January 30, the company said.
