Aerobatic plane video likely a hoax

An amazing widely-circulated video of an aerobatic plane losing a wing in flight and making a successful landing appears to be a hoax. It looks to be more about selling a German line of skateboarder clothing — killathrill –  as flashed on the surviving wing of the airplane — than about a miraculous piece of flying.

Avweb has explains several  reasons why the video has to be digitally enhanced as does Snopes.

Polls close today on SPEEA’s contract with Boeing in the Puget Sound region

Engineers and technical workers at Boeing in the Puget Sound area have until the end of the day to vote on whether to accept the company’s four-year agreement.

The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace recommends acceptance of the offer.

Negotiations for about 700 Wichita engineers, who are also represented by SPEEA, were expected to resume today.

Wichita Aero Club’s first luncheon

Cessna distributing layoff notices today

Cessna Aircraft is distributing sixty-day layoff notices today.

Last month, the company said it is forced to cut 500 jobs in Wichita and 165 at its site in Bend, Ore. as the company lowers its projected production rates for 2009 in a declining global economic environment.

About 150 people applied for a voluntary layoff program, the company said.  That figure also includes the Bend facility.  Some of the layoffs are mitigated from voluntary layoffs, but it isn’t a “one-for-one” situation, said Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver. He did not immediately know how many notices were being distributed.

Employee information sessions are being held this week for those who affected workers, the company said.

Their last day will be no later than January 30, the company said.
