Boeing to cut 800 jobs in Wichita

The layoff news keeps coming. Boeing Wichita said today that it has to cut 800 jobs as work on current projects winds down.  A delay in the U.S. Air Force tanker program has hurt as well.

It’s the third round of bad news for Wichita and its manufacturing industry.  Hawker Beechcraft laid off 490 people this month, and Cessna plans to cut 500 jobs after the holidays because of the downturn in the economy.  Boeing’s cuts aren’t related to the economy. But they will have an impact just the same.

Boeing has been swinging to the military for the past 18 years in a big way. They bought McDonnell Douglas to bolster there bid for the largest contract ever only to loose to Lockheed Martin. They were caught with their pants down on the tanker bid! They sold the commercial side here in Wichita to a foreign company! They have been developing capacity for freighter conversions in Xi amen China for 20 years.

This country and Kansas is on the cusp of losing its Aerspace industry all for the bottom line.
All the negative comments from the locals condemning the Aircraft workers! Wake up to the new global economy!
